MIT Excellence Awards honor six Lincoln Laboratory employees

Three members of the MIT Lincoln Laboratory technical staff and a team from the Laboratory's Facility Services Department were presented 2013 MIT Excellence Awards at a ceremony held on 6 March in the Kresge Auditorium on the MIT campus. The awardees were recognized for contributions that either enhance the Institute's mission or that enrich the MIT community.

The 2013 recipients of "Unsung Hero" awards are Jessica Holland, Gregory Rowe, and Dennis Weikle. Ms. Holland, a member of the technical staff in the Surveillance Systems Group, received her award for exceptional contributions to the development of the Federal Aviation Administration's leading-edge approach to airborne collision avoidance. Mr. Rowe, a member of the technical staff in the Active Optical Systems Group, was recognized for his technical expertise, can-do attitude, and willingness to mentor less experienced staff members. Mr. Weikle, currently senior associate staff in the Advanced Sensor Systems and Test Beds Group, was honored for his effective project management, his ability and ingenuity in executing difficult antenna designs, and his dedication to helping his peers.

Robert Clegg, Scott Leach, and Leonard Nunes, three shuttle drivers dubbed the Superdrivers by their nominator, received a "Serving the Client" team award. Their nominator noted that these personable drivers exceed their job requirements to meet riders' needs, adjusting routes to avoid delays or to get passengers closer to their destinations, and waiting the extra minute if riders are running late.
