Eighteen Lincoln Laboratory employees receive
2011 MIT Excellence Awards
Three individuals and one team are honored
Eighteen Lincoln Laboratory employees have been named 2011 recipients of MIT Excellence Awards. On 1 March, this year's recipients were recognized at a ceremony in MIT's Kresge Auditorium.
The Laboratory's honorees are the following individuals:
- Charles Nickerson, Unsung Hero Award (presented posthumously and accepted by his wife, Elaine Nickerson), for his exemplary work as the assistant to the business manager in the Engineering Division, which continues to benefit from the scheduling and budgeting tools he implemented
- Vincent Cerrati, technical staff member in the Rapid Prototyping Group, Unsung Hero Award, for his collaborative approach to managing the group's fabrication shop and his innovative engineering contributions
- David Granchelli, manager of the Communications and Community Outreach Office, Unsung Hero Award, for his tireless efforts to connect the wider community to the Laboratory's scientists and engineers and his transformation of a fledgling outreach initiative into a structured program
- Facility Services Department Conservation Team: Donald Holmes, Jay Dolan, David Barnes, David DeMoura, Michael Fodiman, Paul Foster, Richard Gabriele, Dave Kiser, Martin Millerick, James Milligan, Richard Perling, Michael Rocha, Peter Santa Lucia, Dennis Weron, and Robert Young, Greening MIT Award, for implementing a comprehensive program to reduce energy use, conserve resources, and minimize the impact of the Laboratory's activities on the environment

This year marked the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the MIT Excellence Awards. These awards acknowledge the efforts made by members of the MIT community toward fulfilling the goals, values, and mission of the Institute. Professionalism, commitment to best practices, and high standards of excellence are the hallmarks of these awards. During their ten-year history, the awards have recognized recipients who have worked at diverse jobs in departments, offices, divisions, and laboratories across MIT.
